What’s Happening – Sunday Edition? Today: Pokemon Gym Day @ 2pm; Deckbuilding Games w/ Trent and Beth @ 2:30pm; Story Games @ 6pm; Iron Kingdoms RPG @ 7pm. Monday: 1st Edition D&D with Ron @ 6pm; Boardgame Learn n’ Play @ 6-10pm; Lynnwood Magic MeetUp: EDH and more! @ 6:30pm. Thanks everyone who came out and supported the Lynnwood Food Bank by picking up a copy of King’s Forge during out launch party yesterday! As anyone who was here could tell you, we had a fabulous time! We had five tables of King’s Forge running most of the night and lots of other games thrown in on the side — Thunder Alley, The Resistance: Avalon, Cash ‘n Guns and even a few previews of Machi Koro. Everyone had such a fantastic time; the energy was great and there was lots of mingling. You all helped make our most perfect dream come true! Today will be a bit more mellow: Trent and Beth will most likely break out the new Legendary: Alien deckbuilding game and Tim’s looking forward to a new Story Game tonight, The Society for the Exploration of Mysteries. See you soon … Around the Table!

What’s Happening? Today: Beer Tasting from 6-8pm; Worker Placement Games with Trent & Beth @ 6:30pm; Catanamaniacs @ 7:30pm (gearing up for the big tournament on 9/20!). Wednesday: Riichi Mahjong 2-10pm; Netrunner League Play begins tonight from 5-10pm; The New Season of D&D Encounters, Tyranny of Dragons, starts @ 6pm. And with the start of the new season of Encounters is also the official release date of the 5th Edition D&D Player’s Handbook! We have plenty in stock and available for sale. We’ve had it for two weeks now and I have to say we are VERY impressed. First off, it’s a beautiful book, with evocative art, good easy-to-read layout, nice paper. Next, they’ve really taken D&D back to its roots — the rules are light and inobtrusive. Only 18 (of 314) pages are devoted to combat and movement! Magic is back to how it used to work with spell slots and whatnot, but now with lots of options to keep things interesting and to keep spellcasters able to fulfill their role once those spells are used up. Most of the book is about making characters with many neat choices available and ways to bring out the roleplaying aspects of your characters. A solid ‘A’ grade to Wizards of the Coast this time. And to help represent those characters we have in the new booster packs for the new D&D Miniatures. They are plastic, pre-painted miniatures that come in randomized boxes, 4 minis to a box. We also have copies of the D&D Starter Boxed set and the Miniatures Starter Set to complete your collection.

What’s Happening? Today: 1st Edition D&D with Ron @ 6pm; Boardgame Learn n’ Play @ 6-10pm; Lynnwood Magic MeetUp: EDH and more! @ 6:30pm. Tuesday: Beer Tasting from 6-8pm; Worker Placement Games with Trent @ Beth @6:30pm; Catanamaniacs @ 7:30pm (gearing up for the big tournament on 9/20!). Another Gen Con has come and gone and this one was full of exciting news and announcements. We’ve read through the press releases and the blogs to find you the ones we thought were most interesting: Fantasy Flight Games went crazy and announced some huge upcoming releases: Star Wars fans got the most love from Imperial Assault, essentially Star Wars Descent, and Star Wars: Armada, another miniatures battles game, this time throwing us into the middle of massive fleet combats (both coming in early 2015). http://ift.tt/1pAJNP8 & http://ift.tt/1mdcuNN Just before Gen Con, they also let us know about X-Com: The Board Game, which will revolutionize co-operative games by having many of the board actions performed by your tablet or phone. Much better than an audio CD! http://ift.tt/1pAJNPd They also announced an expansion for Eldritch Horror, Mountains of Madness, and the 6th Wave of ships for Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game, focusing on rouges and bounty hunters. Here’s the link for the full run-down: http://ift.tt/1mdcs8D And not to leave out the Android: Netrunner players, they also displayed Order & Chaos, the next Deluxe expansion for the game. http://ift.tt/1pAJNPg Other people besides FFG did things too. Upper Deck is bringing back it VS. game as a ‘Living Card Game’. IDW Publishing announced that they are bringing back one of my (Tim’s) favorite boardgames of all time, Fire & Axe, a brilliant game of Viking plunder, exploration and trading. Steve Jackson Games is going to bring us, what else, but more Munchkin! This time, Munchkin Steampunk illustrated by legendary local artist Phil Foglio. We’ll be eagerly waiting for that until mid-2015. There was of course, much more going on, but these are the ones we’ve been dying to share. Needless to say, look for all of these games in the store as soon as they are available.

What’s Happening? Today: Magic Homeroom @ 2pm; Pathfinder Society @ 6pm; Magic Tournament – Standard format [$5] @ 6:30pm. Sunday: Deckbuilding Games w/ Trent and Beth @ 2:30pm; Iron Kingdoms RPG @ 7pm. A few new titles came in today before the post-Gen Con flood. The one we’re really excited about is Impuse, the new card game by the brains behind Glory to Rome and Innovation, Carl Chudyk. 2-6 players can play this card game of space exploration, expansion, exploitation and extermination. And it plays in under an hour. For you horror fans out there, there is a new edition of Ted Alspach’s Ultimate Werewolf, a deluxe edition featuring a ton of new roles and scenarios. It supports up to 75 players with evocative art and a guidebook able to take you through a small gathering of friends up to that huge convention event. And for the fantasy enthusiasts, we have Eight-Minute Empire: Legends. Now, we had plain-old Eight-Minute Empires and have had a lot of fun playing it. Legends removes the resource gathering element of the cards and adds a larger board, special abilities, fantasy creatures and new play variants. Lastly, for you computer gamers out there, we have World of Tanks: Rush, a card game of WWII tank warfare. Lead your tanks into battle, defend your bases, call for reinforcements and receive medals! (And get a free promo code for your online play account)
